UNMISSABLE SHORT FILMS | Black Button

Cinematic excellence doesn’t have to come in 90-minute slabs, so here I look at the very best short movies around. If you’ve got a little spare time, bang one of these beauties on – satisfaction guaranteed.

#3: Black Button [2007]

Remember that movie The Box, with Cameron Diaz? Yes, I’d rather forget about it too. But its obvious inspiration comes from this inspired short from a few years ago – and it crams every philosophical debate into its seven-minute run time, without all of the corny supernatural trappings of the big-screen counterpart. It’s all down to the dialogue here, filled with winks and nods, and the slow music helps build it to a fantastic – if perhaps obvious in hindsight – conclusion.
